A phono preamp for every cartridge

Adjustable for MM and MC

A cartridge only sounds right when the preamp suits it. With the Stateline Phono 2 you choose one of four input capacitance settings for MM cartridges, and set the input impedance between 25 Ω and 47 kΩ in 50 steps for MC cartridges. This lets you match it to almost any cartridge, so voices and instruments stand clear and relaxed in the room.

Quiet that lets music emerge

Discrete design, class A, external power supply

A cartridge signal is very small, and any interference gets amplified with it. That is why there is no transformer in the chassis: the power supply sits outside. Inside, a discrete FET input stage and a MOSFET output stage work in class A. The PCB and all components are coated with our Maestro lacquer, which damps mechanical resonances. What remains is a quiet background against which fine details become audible.

The Stateline Phono 2 is a phono preamp for turntables with MM or MC cartridges. It sits between your turntable and amplifier, raises the very small cartridge signal to line level and applies RIAA equalization. Only then does a record sound the way it was recorded.

When a dedicated phono preamp makes sense

Many amplifiers no longer have a phono input, others only a simple one for MM cartridges. If you use an MC cartridge or want to give your turntable more room, connect the Stateline Phono 2 to any line input. Its own external power supply keeps interference from the amplifier away.

Matched to your cartridge

For MM cartridges you can choose between four input capacitance settings, for MC cartridges the input impedance can be set in 50 steps. You will find the values for your cartridge in the manufacturer's data sheet. If you are unsure, we are happy to help you with the setup.

Grows with your system

The Stateline Phono 2 is the entry point to our phono preamps. With the Stateline Phono 2 Signature power supply you can later upgrade it to the Signature version without replacing the unit. The Signature version was reviewed by Lite Magazin (German).

Frequently asked questions about the Stateline Phono 2

Will the Stateline Phono 2 work with my cartridge?

Very likely. It is designed for MM and MC cartridges. For MM you choose between 0, 82, 150 and 232 pF, for MC you set the impedance between 25 Ω and 47 kΩ in 50 steps. If you are unsure which setting fits, we are happy to advise you.

What is the difference to the Signature version?

The Signature version additionally works with the Stateline Phono 2 Signature power supply. It powers the preamp through a circuit with three transformers, two of them as isolation transformers. You can upgrade your Phono 2 to the Signature version with this power supply at any time.

My amplifier has a phono input. Do I still need a phono preamp?

Not necessarily. Built-in phono inputs are often a simple solution for MM cartridges. The Stateline Phono 2 adds its own power supply, a discrete design and settings for MC cartridges. Whether the step is worth it is best heard on your own system. You have a 30-day return period for that.
