What does a grounding box do in a HiFi system?

A grounding box offers a clean, stable reference point for the ground of your components. It brings the grounds together at a central point and keeps out disturbances that enter the system through the protective earth of the house wiring. This reduces ground loops and creates a quieter background.

Does a purely digital system benefit from grounding too?

Yes. Streamers, DACs and network devices generate high-frequency noise that travels over the ground. Good grounding gives these devices a quiet reference point and reduces the digital noise floor that makes a system sound nervous.

Which components do I connect to a grounding box?

Suitable components are those with a free ground connection, such as turntables, phono stages, preamplifiers, DACs or streamers. Which connection gives the most in your setup is best found by trying, since every chain is built differently.

Is a grounding box the same as a power filter?

No. A power filter works in the supply and cleans the voltage that flows to the components. A grounding box works on the ground side and creates a quiet reference point. The two complement each other but solve different problems.
